Saint Marina

Saint Marina was born in Antioch in Pisidia, in the middle of the 3rd century AD. from pagan parents. Her mother died when Marina was very young and her father entrusted her upbringing to an extraordinary woman who was a secret Christian. Thus, Marina found herself in a Christian environment from her infancy.

At the age of 15, she revealed to her father that she is a Christian and he, shocked and not knowing what to do to bring her to her senses, made the decision to report her to the Prefect of Olymbrio. He ordered her arrested for questioning. When presented before him, Marina fearlessly confessed that she is a Christian. He tried to convince her, but in vain. Then he ordered her to be imprisoned. The tortures that followed were terrible. Each harder than the other. But the saint did not bend. No evil was able to bend her will and make her deny her faith.

When Olymbrius summoned her a second time and found that her faith was steadfast in Christ, he burned her with lighted candles. But her wounds were miraculously closed and this resulted in many of those present embracing Christianity. Faced with this "danger", the Prefect Olymbrios finally beheaded her.

Orthodox Church celebrates her memory on July 17
