Saint Philip

Philip was one of the twelve disciples of Christ and came from Galilee. He was distinguished for his exceptional prudence and studied the books of the prophets of the Old Testament. At Pentecost, Philip, like the other disciples of Christ, received the illumination of the Holy Spirit and devoted himself with fervor to the preaching of the Gospel. In his preaching he had the apostle Bartholomew as his companion and close associate. He was also accompanied by Mariamni, his sister by flesh, who ministered to them. In Hierapolis in Phrygia the pagans arrested him and after many tortures, he was martyred on the cross in 87.

Orthodox Church celebrates his memory on November 14
