Saint Stylianos

Saint Stylianos was born in Paphlagonia (Asia Minor). The historical information we have about him is scanty. He lived between the 4th and 6th centuries. He is considered a protector of infants and a healer of childhood diseases. As soon as he came of age, he distributed his father's property to the poor and lived in a secluded place with fasting and persistent exercise in a cave. He acquired, over the years, fame mainly for his miraculous prayer that helped many women when they did not have children. From the paretymology of his name, it is believed that he stylizes, that is, strengthens the health of children, of whom he is considered a guardian. Thus the Saint was considered the patron of infants. The name Stergios is extremely widespread, mainly among the Vlachs, as a variant of Stelios. He died in Paphlagonia, full of days and virtues.

Orthodox Church celebrates his memory on November 26
