Saint Charalambos

Saint Charalambos was a priest in Magnesia in Asia Minor and lived during the reign of Septimius Severus (193 - 211 AD). His life was a continuous service of devotion to Christ and love to his neighbor. When in the year 198 Severus launched a persecution against the Christians, the prefect of Magnesia Lucianos, arrested the Saint and asked him to deny his faith. But the Saint not only did not do this, but on the contrary, he confessed to the prefect his adherence to Christ and boldly declared that no matter what torture he was subjected to, he was not going to deny the faith of the Church. Irritated by these words, the prefect orders and they flay him alive. However, instead of writhing in pain, he praised God for the endurance He gave him. Then many executioners, who saw this miracle, believed in Christ. Frightened, the prefect released him. Severus himself later ordered his beheading after further torture, at the age of 113.
