Saints Theodore Tyron and Stratelates

The holy Great Martyrs Theodoros, Stratelates and Tyron, were two athletes of Christ, whom people honored and still honor to this day.

Saint Theodore the Stratelates, who lived at the end of the 3rd, beginning of the 4th century, held a prominent position in the order of military saints, since he represents the ideal type of defender of the empire and also of the Church in Byzantine society. He was a profound connoisseur of the art of rhetoric. He quickly rose in the military hierarchy of the Roman army, receiving the rank of soldier. In vain the emperor Licinius tried to convert him to idolatry. Theodore, remaining unmoved in his faith, essentially put his life at its end. He was martyred in 319 AD by crucifixion and beheading.

Saint Theodore Tyron, even though he belonged to the class of newly recruited soldiers, always stands on the same level as the Stratelates. He took place during the years of the emperors Maximian (286 - 305) and Galerius (305 - 311). He was called Tyrion because he had been enlisted in the body of recruits of the Roman legion. At that time, the decree of Diocletian had begun to be implemented, regarding sacrifices to the gods, with the aim of imprisoning Christians. Theodore refused to take part in them. He bravely submitted to the horrible tortures proclaiming orthodoxy until his death (306 AD)
