Holy Great Martyr Artemius

He was a distinguished politician of Byzantium and a devout Christian. Constantine the Great, appreciating his moral and political gifts, gave him the office of patrician and appointed him Duke and Augustus of Alexandria.

In 357 AD goes to Patras, by order of Emperor Constantius, son of Constantine the Great, to receive the sept relics of Saint Andrew and transfer them to Vasilevousa. During his stay in Patras and under his supervision he built an aqueduct and founded a nursing home.

When Artemius heard that Julian the Pervert was persecuting the Christians, with the power given to him by God he went to Antioch and directly checked Julian for his persecutions against the Christians. Iulianos, who did not expect such an attitude from an official, arrested him and flogged him. He then crushed his bones with a stone, and finally decapitated him. The holy relic of Artemios was received by a deaconess, Aristis, who took it to Constantinople, to the temple of the prophet Prodromos.
