Saint Eutychius Patriarch of Constantinople
Saint Eutychios was born in 512 in the village of Theia Komi in Phrygia and lived under the emperors Justinian I (527-565), Justin II (565-578) and Tiberius (578-582). From a very early age, his uncle, the elder Hesychios, nurtured him in the threads of the Orthodox faith and theology. Later he became a monk and was ordained a deacon and elder in the monastery of Amaseia.
During his stay in Vasilevousa, he impressed Patriarch Minas with his composed personality, morals and rare virtues and gained the favor of Emperor Justinian I, who helped him ascend the patriarchal throne after Minas' ouster (552) .
From his new position, Eutychios unfolded all his spiritual and administrative gifts, but also his obsession with orthodox truths. That is why he came face to face with Justinian, when the emperor was seduced by the heresy of the incorruptible. For his attitude, he was deposed and exiled for twelve years.
He returned to the patriarchal throne of Constantinople in splendor in 577 until his death in 582.
Orthodox Church celebrates his memory on April 6
