Archangels Michael and Gabriel

Michael is the most glorious and brilliant commander of the incorporeal Forces. Many are his interventions and benefits both in the Old Testament and in the New. Archangel Michael appeared to Patriarch Abraham during the sacrifice of Isaac. Then to Lot, when he rescued him and his family from the destruction of Sodom. Then he presented himself to Patriarch Jacob, when he rescued him from the murderous hands of his brother Hsaus. He went before the Israelites when they were freed from Egyptian slavery, in the form of cloud by day and fire by night, showing them the way to the Promised Land.He was presented to the prophet Balaam, when he wanted to curse the Israelite people not to continue the road to Canaan. He also presented himself to Jesus of Nave, answering him "I am the commander-in-chief of the Lord today."

When Lucifer because of his pride rebelled against God, he wanted to put his throne in heaven and become like God. He was followed by an order of Angels, which he also rejected from God because of his pride. Then they fell and were cast out of heaven along with their leader the Devil.

Then this great archangel Michael, seeing the merciful decline of the Angels, understood the cause of their fall, and therefore with the submission and humility he showed to the Despot God, he preserved both his own glory and splendor, as well as the glory of the other Angelic orders. For his submission and this humiliation, he was appointed by Almighty God to be the first of the Angelic orders. During that period the archangel Michael gathered and united the ranks of the Angels. And thus he praised and glorified God Almighty, exclaiming that divine and angelic hymn with all the Angels, "Holy, Holy, Holy Lord of hosts, heaven and earth are full of his glory."

It was Gabriel who appeared to Daniel and revealed to him that the captivity of the Israelites would last seventy years, and after four hundred and ninety-seven years Christ would come. Gabriel was the one who brought the news to Manoe's wife, that she will give birth to Samson.

And in the New Testament he was the one who brought the news to Joachim and Anna that they will give birth to the Virgin and also to Zacharias that she will give birth to John the Forerunner. It is closely connected with the events of the birth of Christ. He announces the joyful news to the Mother of God, that she will give birth to the Son and Word of God from the Holy Spirit. Many of the holy scholars and astrologers agree, that Gabriel was the Angel who rolled the rock from the monument of Jesus, bringing the message to Myrophores about the Resurrection of the Lord.Archangel Gabriel was the one who ministered the Mystery of the incarnate economy of the Divine Word from beginning to end. This is why the Church of Christ decided to celebrate together with the two Archangels Michael and Gabriel, and to invoke their grace and help.

Orthodox Church celebrates their memory on November 8
