The Annunciation to the Blessed Virgin Mary

With the word Evangelism we refer to the joyful news for Christianity, of the imminent birth of Jesus Christ, given by the archangel Gabriel to Mary. According to the evangelist Luke, the Annunciation of the Virgin took place six months after the miraculous conception of John the Forerunner by Elizabeth, the wife of Zacharias, when the archangel Gabriel was sent by God to the Virgin Mary to announce to her that he would bring world the Son of God. At that time, Mary was living in Nazareth of Galilee and was betrothed to Joseph.Gabriel suddenly appeared in front of Mary and addressed her with the greeting: "Hail, gracious woman, the Lord is with you." It was natural for the young woman to panic, but the archangel reassured her: "Do not be afraid, Mariam, for you have found favor with God. And behold, he was conceived in the womb and his son was born, and you call his name Jesus."

As soon as she recovered from her shock, Mary, full of wonder, asked the archangel how she would conceive, since she does not know the man. Gabriel answered her that the Holy Spirit will cover her like a cloud and will act invisibly and mysteriously the conception of the Son of God. And to make himself more believable he invoked the miraculous conception of John the Forerunner by Elizabeth. Mary was convinced by Gabriel's words, answering: ("Here is the handmaid of the Lord, give birth to me according to your word").

The Annunciation of the Lord is celebrated on March 25
