Orthodox Icon Our Lady of Guidance

The Orthodox Icon of Our Lady of Guidance is lovingly crafted in natural poplar wood. Its technique is lithography, while the wood is carved with a wavy outline that gives a modern touch to the icon.

Its embossed representation makes it a unique piece which requires high craftsmanship to be made. Its special design manages to combine traditional and modern elements, making it the most loved icon design in the customers preferences!

Our Lady of Guidance

The Icon of the Virgin Guide, is historically the first icon of the Church, narrated by the Evangelist Luke, as testified by the relevant Magalynarius of the Prayer Canon to the Most Holy Theotokos: "Alala the lips of the ungodly, of those who do not worship Your Icon on the seventh, they told her under the priesthood of the Apostle Luke, the Guide".

According to the Synaxarist tradition, the Holy Evangelist created a living icon of the Most Holy Theotokos and she accepted it with great joy and blessed it saying: "The grace of what has been done for me be with her". This Icon, saved in Palestine, was sent to Constantinople, during the reign of Theodosius II the Younger (408 – 450), by Empress Eudokia, as a gift to Theodosius' sister Agia Pulcheria and placed by her in the Monastery of the Guides, of which she was the foundress . The Icon performed countless miracles (such as the rescue of Constantinople in 717 AD, from the Arabs) and was finally destroyed by the Ottomans during the Fall of 1453 AD.
A copy of the image was in the Xenophon Monastery of Mount Athos and today it is in the Vatopedi Monastery.
