Saint Pantaleon

He lived during the reign of Emperor Diocletian and came from Nicomedia. He acquired a good circular education from an early age and when he completed it he studied medicine, but he was also distinguished for his oratory. In fact, his family's relations with the palace were very good and soon he would be brought as a physician to the Emperor Diocletian's court. However, he himself finally embraced Christianity. Sharing his wealth to help the poor, he offered his medical services free of charge to anyone who could not afford it.The miraculous cures of the Saint caused the admiration of the inhabitants of Nicomedia, but also the hatred and envy of the other doctors of the city. The latter denounced him to the Emperor Maximian. Maximian summoned the Saint to the palace to ask for an explanation. The Saint courageously confessed that he is a Christian. The emperor at first tried to persuade him with various flatteries and promises to deny Christ and sacrifice to idols. But he remained loyal and steadfast. He didn't refuse. He did not betray Christ. The emperor enraged, ordered terrible tortures, to shake the Saint and force him to sacrifice to the idols. In many of the cases, however, the tortures did not cause him pain. Finally it was decided to behead him.
