The Raising of Lazarus

Lazarus was from Bethany in Judea and was a friend of Jesus. And together with his sisters, they hosted and served the Lord many times. So Lazarus, a few days before the Lord's Passion, fell ill and his sisters Martha and Mary sent to notify Jesus, who was staying in Galilee. But when Jesus arrived in Judea, Lazarus had already died and had been dead for four days. Then the Lord asked them to lift the stone slab that covered the tomb and after prayer he shouted loudly "Lazarus, come out". Lazarus, who had been dead for four days, was immediately resurrected and stood up wrapped in shrouds. This supernatural miracle we celebrate on this day. It is said that Lazarus was then 30 years old and after living another 30 years, he ended his earthly life in Cyprus in the year 63. In 890, Emperor Leo the Wise, moved the holy relic of Lazarus to Constantinople. It is said that Lazarus in his later life only laughed once when he saw someone steal a pot and then he said the following phrase: One soil steals another. The Resurrection of Lazarus increased the hatred of the Jews who, upon learning of it, demanded to kill Lazarus and Christ.

It is celebrated on the Saturday before Holy and Holy Week
